VOSH-NY's Next Joint Mission to the Amazonian Jungle Town of Tarapoto and Outskirts of Lima!

After our successful missions to Lebanon last December and India this past March we are very excited to be gearing up for our 18th humanitarian campaign tomorrow August 4th. We are going to be doing a joint mission to two separate areas of Peru. The first half of our campaign will be to the amazonian jungle town of Tarapoto. Tarapoto is situated in the San Martín Province and is located in the high jungle plateau to the east of what is known as the "selva baja". We will be offering a free clinic at the Clinica Oftalmologica de la Selva, recently established by Dr. Arevalo. Dr. Arevalo, a native of Tarapoto, has been a huge supporter of VOSH-NY and has volunteered with us countless times in the past. We are very proud and excited to be partnering up with him on this mission.

The second phase of our August campaign will be to the outskirts "barriada" area of Lima. We are looking to join forces with the Peruvian Ministry of Health and the Peruvian Army. Our goal is to really benefit the poor populations outside the city who lack access to core Optometric services and channeling necessary eye surgeries to the Clinica Geriatrica del Ejercito. We are very excited about this upcoming campaign and we ask for your continued involvement and support.

Dr. Gooden and Yhoalibeth Reunited in Peru!

I am pleased to report that after her remarkable surgery back in October lil Yhoalibeth is doing amazing. She's back to her patented smile from ear to ear and has quickly adjusted back to her life in Peru. And for a special treat Dr. Gooden who happened to be her amazing anesthesiologist during her surgery had the opportunity to reunite with Yhoalibeth and her family during her recent visit to Lima. It was truly a great moment for all invovled to have the opportunity to meet again post-surgery and I hear the Lomo Saltado they shared at the restaurant wasn't to bad either.

Happy New Year!

Feliz Ano Nuevo! 2010 was truly a great success! There are several missions and new events planned for 2011, which we hope will be just as successful! This blog which was started only a few years ago has taken off. Since we are an organization dedicated to providing quality eye care and vision we are going to post more pictures and videos to represent some of our past missions, the VOSH Community and also of life itself, to show you how we view the world! Stay tune.
