Day 2: NONSTOP!

Very long day, started at 7:00 AM with a nice drive to Manhattan, first Yhoalibeth needed to see Dr. Bederson, the neurosurgeon, then Dr. Genden, the ENT specialist; walked a few blocks to see the pediatrician, Dr. Murphy. By then it was almost noon, so drove to Pio Pio for lunch, for that famous Peruvian rotisserie chicken. After lunch went to see the eye specialists, Drs. Shulman and Elahi, who happens to be a plastic surgeon too. Yhoalibeth is in good hands. Back home for supper, and she is still awake watching Dora the Explorer, she is full of energy. Almost forgot she was on the 6:00 PM Telemundo news. http://www.telemundo47.com/video/25447027/index.html

It is such an incredible and exciting journey, after a 6 month......

As I sit down to write this entry, Yhoalibeth (she prefers her first name) and her mom Evelyn must be checking in at the LAN counter in Lima's Jorge Chavez International Airport. And in a few hours we will be picking her up at JFK. It is such an incredible and exciting journey, after a 6 month all out effort of so many friends and colleagues from Peru and the USA that finally this beautiful girl will have at least a chance to be examined, and hopefully operated and treated, by the best surgeons from Mt. Sinai Hospital. Half the battle is almost over, and counting...will keep all of you posted. I need to get a good night of rest. Thank you all. Dr. Jorge Won

We are extremely excited to announce that VOSH-NY will be bringing Ximena, the little 4 year old girl from Peru, and her mother this coming weekend (Oct 16-17) for a life-saving operation to treat her orbital tumor. All the major hurdles in getting her here from Lima (political, diplomatic, logistic, and otherwise) have been surmounted. Dr. Jorge Won and Andrew Won will be personally picking her up over the weekend and accompanying her to her first series of pre-surgical testing over the first week.

As of now the only issue not resolved is the HOUSING SITUATION for Ximena's mother as Ronald Mcdonald house will not be able to accommodate her. Although we we will be housing her at our home the first few nights we need to find an affordable short-term housing option close to Mt. Sinai Hospital in Upper Manhattan for her 2-month stay while her daughter is receiving treatment. We are contemplating all options but are open to any advice or suggestions. If anybody can help please contact Dr. Jorge Won @ ojowon@aol.com or 718-651-2020.
